Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. FSSAI is responsible for regulating and supervising food safety and standards across the country. It aims to ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.

1. FSSAI Registration:
FSSAI registration is mandatory for all food businesses involved in the manufacturing, processing, packaging, storage, distribution, sale, and import of food products.

2. Types of FSSAI Registration:
FSSAI provides three types of registration based on the scale and nature of the business:
    a) Basic Registration: For small businesses and startups with an annual turnover of up to ₹12 lakhs.
    b) State License: For medium-sized businesses with an annual turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹20 crores.
    c) Central License: For large businesses with an annual turnover exceeding ₹20 crores.

3. Renewal of FSSAI License:
FSSAI registration and licenses need to be renewed periodically. The renewal period may vary based on the type of registration.
